The new glasses of French President François Hollande now even reached the New York Times. The question is whether a President can present himself that obvious with a foreign product when the entire national industry is crying out for some support and promotion. French eyewear manufacturers already wrote (open) letters to the Elysée to remind the President of all the options they can offer and challenge Hollande to “do what he preaches”. A small extra problem is that in the meantime the entire country knows that this buffalo horn frame costs 1300 euro which is quite an astronomic amount for most French employees and difficult to match with the sober imago of socialist Hollande. Lindberg profits. The brand gets worldwide free publicity and is probably the only one happy with all this commotion.
