Last week Safilo posted a decrease in sales for 2013 of 4,6% when compared to 2012. At constant exchange rates the decrease would have been 1,9%. Taking in account the loss of the Armani license, the decrease in sales is rather limited. Remarkable however is the decrease in sales of even 10,6% in the fourth quarter of 2013 (at constant exchange rates 6,9%). According to Safilo this decrease is mainly due to a very strong fourth quarter in 2012. The decrease in sales seems to be a worldwide development. Europe did relatively well, mostly thanks to good results in Germany and France. Despite the less good resultst, the new management, led by CEO Delgado, expressed its confidence in 2014.
