This Autumn Gucci and Safilo will launch a few new styles made of an innovative acetate which, compared to traditional acetate used for optical frames, contains a much higher percentage of material from natural origins. In addition both companies will launch two styles from a natural material made of castor-oil seeds. In 2012 these new styles will be delivered in a new eco-friendly packaging. To safe the environment Gucci and Safilo work on more alternative materials to replace acetate and plastics in the future. Both companies are not alone in their efforts to produce eyewear in a more eco-friendly way although the optical industry still stays far behind other industries like for example fashion where eco-friendly production already plays an important role. Vision-Today will keep you updated about new initiatives concerning this topic. Stay tuned!
