Although the communication in the stores, on websites and at Facebook pages wouldn’t always give you that impression, the optical business certainly is an innovative one with the launch of many new products every year. Think of the Essilor Varilux S-series, the HOYA iPad apps which use augmented reality to show the differences between lenses, Easy Scan by I-Optics, new one-day lenses by CooperVision, wooden and even stone frames by Rolf, thermic sunglasses by Italia Independent which, when heated, get a fashion or animal print, a nice new hinge by J.F. Rey for an even better fit, 3D technology like Mykita already introduced and certainly many more interesting developments. It’s time to give them the attention they deserve. For that reason the first Dutch EYEnovation Awards Gala will be organized by the end of this year. Not only to present Awards but even more to inform both press and opticians about all these interesting developments in order to get more coverage in countrywide, regional and local media as well as in the stores. The Gala is another initiative of the Commission Optics of the Dutch Hoofdbedrijfschap Ambachten and a follow-up of the very successful Fête de la Vue Gala’s at the Grand Hotel Huis ter Duin. Independent opticians should and even need to distinguish themselves with these innovative products and techniques and this gala promises to become a perfect starting point to do that more intensive and more often and most of all communicate it better. More information about date, program and the way how to attend as manufacturer, supplier or independent optician follows soon. Stay tuned!
