For the first time in history the fair at Milan opened at Sunday and will continue today and tomorrow. The last years, Sunday used to be the final day of the fair. Both exhibitors and visitors had to get used to this new schedule but most of them were rather happy after this first day. It was busy, especially at the Trend Area. We spotted some new developments like the return of the “clip-on”, this time with better lenses, sometimes polarized. From a trend point of view this return is rather logical as it fits perfectly into the upcoming retro trend with more rounder and panto shapes. Lindberg showed some great new designs which were that new that the company forbid its employees to wear them outside the booth in order to safe the design from copies even before being introduced in the markets. The Italia Independent booth was crowded all day long and even more when Lapo Elkann himself showed up. Polaroid invited everyone for a drink to celebrate its seventy-fifth birthday and the “entrance” to the Safilo group. At the picture Roberto Vedovotto, CEO of Safilo, welcomes the guests and expresses his belief in the future. Enough to experience, let’s see how busy today will be.
