At the SILMO in Paris rumors said Luxottica was about to acquire Mikli Diffusion France. However all people involved denied the rumors consequently and still nothing has been published at the official website of Luxottica. Quite logic as Luxottica has a quotation at the Stock Exchange and this kind of information could influence the value of the shares. Quite surprising the privately owned company Alain Mikli Benelux yesterday launched an official press release confirming negotiations are on their way and an acquisition or any other kind of cooperation is, although not yet signed, expected. Some years ago, in 2003, negotiations about an acquisition by Luxottica were on their way as well but finally at that time, the Italian manufacturer decided to acquire Oakley including Oliver Peoples, Mosley Tribes and Paul Smith. An eventual acquisition of Mikli Diffusion France with the brands Alain Mikli, Starck Eyes and Vuarnet by Luxottica would strengthen its “luxury” division at least for the short term. For the long term it would be interesting to see whether Alain Mikli himself would stay connected to the brand and how an eventual cooperation between him and Luxottica would develop. At Oliver Peoples this operation has been rather successful with designer and former owner Larry Leight still on board. Officially nothing has been published yet. Vision-Today keeps you posted.
