The American CFDA Awards can be best compared to the Oscars in the film industry. Nominations are already a great honour and to win an Award is fantastic. Once again this year quite some nominations for young talents. Alexander Wang, recently appointed head of design at Balenciaga, competes in two categories and might win the most prestigious Womenswear Designer of the Year Award. Phillip Lim is nominated just like Thom Browne and Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Al these relative youngsters gain more and more brand awareness. Their fresh and wearable designs fit perfectly in this time in which haute couture no longer plays an important role but the demand for quality design with an edge grows day by day. Interesting developments which slowly gain ground in the optical industry as well.
